Getting Started With Collaborative Planning

A Presentation by Karl Kehde -- The Result of 12 Years of Grant-funded Research

This presentation details a collaborative planning process that can build stakeholder trust and make any proposed land development in a settled area into an asset for its surrounding neighborhood. Whether you are an interested citizen, planning board member, planner, developer, or environmentalist, this presentation shows you how to help design, finance, and gain approvals for residential and commercial projects that feature public greens, recreational facilities, affordable housing, architecture in the best character of the existing neighborhood, wildlife sanctuaries, and walkways throughout the project from adjacent neighborhoods directly to important destinations. Including real life examples of stakeholders teaming up to create amazing community-enhancing land development plans, the presentation also provides Collaborative Planning Guidelines for implementing the process. A MUST ATTEND for anyone interested in land development.

About the Presenter: Karl Kehde personally designed, developed, and marketed three major residential real estate projects. He built solar homes and donated conservation easements. He served eight years on his town planning board and five years on an advisory committee working on New Jersey's State Development Plan. Beginning in 1989 he received philanthropic funding from several foundations plus the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs to find a way to achieve Smart Growth. Over the past twelve years he has participated in more than 500 stakeholder meetings in 48 proposed land development projects in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Florida, Vermont, and the state of Washington to create this collaborative planning process for ending stakeholder conflict and improving proposed land development projects. He invented the Project Modeling Kit and authored Collaborative Land Use Planning, a do-it-yourself, guidebook.
